CANTON, Ohio -- The Point Park University women's soccer team came back to tie the score on two occasions Saturday in its non-conference game at Malone (Ohio) but could never get a go-ahead goal in a 3-2 loss.
Freshman forward Audra Lewis, from Liberty Boro, Pa., and South Allegheny High School, scored both goals for Point Park (0-2), the first of which came at 19:04 to tie the score at 1-1. Fellow freshman Simone Keibler, a Bethel Park, Pa., native who transferred from Malone, assisted on a through ball.
Malone scored early and late in the first half to take a 2-1 lead at intermission. Malone got a very early lead on Leah Arnold's goal just 1:29 into the game. Then, at the 42:12 mark, Banae Fricker smashed home a rebound for the halftime lead.
Lewis went back to work in the second half as she scored off a rebound at the 52:21 mark to tie the score once again at 2-2. Beth Millican picked up the assist on the play.
And despite the fact that Point Park led in shots, 23-9 overall and 14-2 in the second half, the Pioneers could not get the go-ahead goal. Instead, Malone got the eventual game-winner when Corrin Hayberg scored an unassisted goal at 65:03.
Point Park led in corner kicks, 12-4, and each team made five saves. Point Park split the goalkeeping duties between starter Mackenzie Pinto (4 saves, 2 GA) and Erica Roney (1 save, 1 GA), who each played 45 minutes.
Point Park had 22 players see action in the game, and 12 of them registered a shot. Lewis and Keibler each made four shots, and Leeza Tokarski took three.
The Pioneers return to action on Monday for a 12 p.m. home game versus Siena Heights (Mich.) at Highmark Stadium. Siena Heights (1-0) won at Carlow, 3-0, on Saturday at Highmark Stadium.
