OWENSBORO, Ky. -- The Point Park University women's soccer team won at Brescia (Ky.), 3-0, in a Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday. The Pioneers (5-2, 2-0 KIAC) stayed unbeaten in conference play and snapped a two-game losing streak.
Point Park, which was playing for the first time in 10 days, led 1-0 at the half and added two more in the second half to extend the lead versus Brescia (4-6, 1-2 KIAC).
Megan Kuntz, a sophomore forward from Newville, Pa., gave Point Park the first-half lead with her team-leading seventh goal of the year. Kristina Stammer assisted on the goal, which materlized after a struggle in front of the net.
KiLeigh Williams and Alyson Joyce each scored their second goal of the season to pad the Pioneers' lead after halftime. Williams' header finished off a cross from Erin Gilmartin. Joyce dribbled in for her goal after taking a pass from Kari Kowalski.
Erica Roney, a freshman from Springdale, Pa., went all 90 minutes in goal and made three saves in a very non-busy day in net. Point Park held a 31-3 advantage in shots.
With the win over Brescia, Point Park eclipsed last year's win total and tied a program-high for most wins in a season. Going into this the eighth year of Point Park women's soccer, the high for wins came in 2007 (5-12) and 2006 (5-9). The Pioneers were 4-15 a year ago.
Point Park will have a short turnaround before its next game as the two-game, KIAC road trip concludes with a visit to Midway (Ky.) on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 12 p.m. With the two games this weekend, the Pioneers will play one-third of their six-game, KIAC schedule in a span of 24 hours.
