PITTSBURGH -- Once again, the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive & Defensive Player of the Week awards have gone to Point Park University with freshman forward Alyson Joyce (Medina, Ohio) and sophomore defender Angie Abel (Baltimore, Md.) taking home the honors for games played Sept. 24-30, the league announced on Monday.

It is the third time this year that Point Park swept both weekly honors. The Pioneers are 6-2 overall and in first place in the KIAC at 3-0 after strong play from Joyce and Abel led Point Park to a 2-0 showing in conference play last week.

Joyce scored a goal in each of last week's victories -- at 3-0 win at Brescia (Ky.) and a 7-0 victory at Midway (Ky.). She scored the game-winning goal at Midway and also added an assist in the game. Joyce has started seven of eight games at forward and has three goals, two assists and eight points on the year.

Point Park head coach Maggie Kuhn said this week of Joyce that, "she may not be the player that stands out the most on the field, but she does a lot of really good things that help you win."

Abel is a central defender for a Point Park defense that did not give up a goal last week as the Pioneers outscored their two KIAC opponents, 10-0. She played all 180 minutes across the two shutout victories. As an anchor in Point Park's back line, Abel helped the Pioneers allow only three shots to Brescia and eight to Midway.

Coach Kuhn said of Abel that, "she was very good on defense as she has been all year in not allowing much of an attack. They all deserve credit back there. And she played all 90 minutes both games when we subbed everyone in."

Point Park will be in action again on Friday when it visits Salem International for a non-conference game at 3 p.m.
