CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Point Park University women's soccer team won its opening game of the season, 5-0, at West Virginia Tech on Sunday (Sept. 2). The Pioneers (1-0) won their season opener for just the second time in the eight-year history of the program, and it was the first-career win for new head coach Maggie Kuhn.
Point Park had four different players score goals led by sophomore forward Megan Kuntz (Newville, Pa.) with two. Scoring one goal apiece were junior Kristina Stammer (Daytona Beach, Fla.), sophomore Angela Robinet (Daegu, South Korea) and freshman Alyson Joyce (Medina, Ohio).
Freshman goalkeeper Mackenzie Pinto (Harleysville, Pa.) picked up the shutout in 90 minutes of action. It was her first career start and first game as an active player. She was with the team last year but sat out.
Kuhn was hired as the third head coach in Point Park women's soccer history in May 2012. She was an assistant at Bethany (W.Va.) the last seven years, and this is the first head-coaching job for the Finleyville, Pa., native and Bethany Univ. graduate of 2004.
Point Park's next game will be its home opener on Wednesday versus Geneva (6 p.m.). It will be the first game for the Pioneers at their new home venue, Century United South Park Complex located at 973 Hough Dr., South Park, Pa 15236.
A Fan Van will be Free with Point Park Student ID for Wednesday's game. The Fan Van will leave the Student Center Lot at 5 p.m. Return service provided after the game.
