KIAC RELEASE (AUG. 13)

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University women's soccer is picked to finish second in the 2013 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was released by the KIAC office on Tuesday (Aug. 13).

The Pioneers, who were 10-8-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the KIAC last year, were picked this preseason in the same place it ended last season -- as KIAC runner-up to Carlow (14-2-1, 6-0-0 KIAC in 2012). Point Park lost to Carlow last year in the KIAC Tournament finals, 1-0, to fall one game short of its first appearance in the NAIA national tournament.

Carlow is in the top spot in the KIAC preseason poll with four out of a possible six first-place votes. In the voting that was done by the KIAC coaches, the Celtics received 34 points to edge Point Park by a single point. The Pioneers garnered two of six first-place votes and 33 points.

Next in the preseason poll were 2012 KIAC Tournament semifinalists Asbury (Ky.) and Cincinnati Christian tied for the third spot with 23 points each. Midway (Ky.) (17 points), Brescia (Ky.) (10) and Berea (Ky.) (7) completed the poll.

Point Park has 8 of 11 starters and 16 of 20 letter winners returning this year for second-year head coach Maggie Kuhn. The Pioneers are in their ninth year of existence as a varsity sport, and they set a program record for victories in a season last year with 10.
