PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University freshman center Sam Weir was named to the KIAC Women's Basketball All-Conference Team, the conference announced on Thursday (Feb. 27).

Weir is a 6-0 center from Ellwood City, Pa., and Riverside High School. One of 10 players on the KIAC All-Conference Team, Weir leads Point Park (27-4, 13-4 KIAC) with 14.8 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game. She shoots 52.9 percent from the field, 69.3 percent from the foul line and has 14 double-doubles.

The KIAC All-Conference Team was selected through voting done by the conference's head coaches. Weir is the only player to make it from KIAC regular season co-champion and playoff No. 1 seed Point Park. She is the only freshman on the team and one of only two underclassmen to make the list.

As one of the best post threats in the KIAC, Weir leads the conference in blocks per game at 3.1. She is third in the conference in double-doubles (14), third in field-goal percentage (.529), fourth in rebounds (9.4 rpg) and 11th in scoring (14.8 ppg).

On the national level, Weir is third in NAIA Division II in total blocks (97) and blocks per game. Her blocks total has shattered the school's single-season record of 77. Weir is 23rd in the country in rebounding and 24th nationally in field-goal percentage.

Alice Lloyd (Ky.) senior forward Ariel Nickell was chosen the KIAC Player of the Year for the second year in a row. She is second in NAIA DII in scoring (25.8 ppg) and first in rebounding (13.5 rpg). Asbury (Ky.) head coach Bart Flener was named KIAC Coach of the Year after leading the Eagles to a 24-6 record, a share of the KIAC regular season title and the No. 2 playoff seed. Cincinnati Christian guard Amanda Baute (20.6 ppg, 10.3 rpg) was named KIAC Newcomer of the Year.

Weir and the No. 1 seed Pioneers are in the KIAC Tournament semifinals versus No. 5 Berea (Ky.) on Friday, Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. The KIAC Tournament semifinals and finals are being hosted by Alice Lloyd in Pippa Passes, Ky.
