MIDWAY, Ky. -- Point Park University won by its largest margin of victory this year, 86-53, in a KIAC women's basketball game at Midway (Ky.) College on Saturday night.
Ja'Nia McPhatter put in 22 points, and Emily Schartner had 13 to lead Point Park (15-4, 8-3 KIAC) to the 33-point victory over Midway (5-12, 3-4 KIAC). Point Park also beat Midway in its home meeting, 53-47, on Dec. 18.
It was the third win in a row and in the second in as many days for the Pioneers, who once again have the best winning percentage in the KIAC at 8-3.
The Pioneers have the division lead by percentage points but trail Alice Lloyd (11-7, 5-2 KIAC) by one game in the loss column in addition to losing two games to the Eagles this year. Alice Lloyd lost at IU Southeast, 70-68, on Saturday after being ahead at halftime.
After the game was delayed by 90 minutes at Midway due to a ref-scheduling issue, Point Park got off to a slow start with a 12-10 lead after eight minutes. But the game soon became a rout as the Pioneers were up, 40-27, at the break.
The Pioneers pushed the lead even further by outscoring Midway, 46-26, the second half. Point Park made a 15-0 run for a 68-36 lead with nine minutes left, and the night was over for the Point Park starters for the most part.
Point Park shot 48 percent from the field and held Midway to 36 percent, including 3 of 18 (16 percent) from outside the arc. Midway's 22 turnovers were twice as many as Point Park's 11.
The Pioneers conclude their four-day, three-game trip to Kentucky by playing St. Louis College of Pharmacy (1-6, 0-0 KIAC) at neutral site Midway College on Sunday (12 p.m.).
