McPhatter named KIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 24-30

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University sophomore forward Ja'Nia McPhatter, from New Castle, Pa., was named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Dec. 24-30, announced the league office on Monday (Dec. 31).
McPhatter, a 5-9 transfer from LaRoche College, averaged 19.5 ppg and 11.0 rpg to lead Point Park (12-2, 6-1 KIAC) to a 2-0 week in KIAC play. She shot 58 percent from the field (14 for 24) and 83 percent from the foul line (10 for 12) to pace the Pioneers to victories over IU Southeast and Brescia (Ky.) on Dec. 29-30.
She totaled 18 points and 14 rebounds in a 63-56 win over IU Southeast Dec. 29. She followed that up with 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists in a 86-54 rout of Brescia, which was a first-place matchup, Dec. 30.
McPhatter's strong play has the Pioneers off to their best start ever at 12-2 and in first place in the KIAC at 6-1. The Pioneers have won eight games in a row, including six in a row in conference play.
For the year, McPhatter is averaging a team-high 15.8 ppg and is 10th in NAIA Division II with 9.8 rpg. She is shooting 48 percent from the floor and 75 percent from the free-throw line. She has seven double-doubles in her last nine games and is averaging 18.1 ppg and 11.7 rpg in conference games.
McPhatter and the Pioneers hit the road for two key, KIAC games this coming weekend at Alice Lloyd (Jan. 4) and Asbury (Ky.) (Jan. 5).
