PITTSBURGH -- The Point Park University women's basketball team, which is off to an outstanding record of 18-4, had two starters named to the Capital One (R) Academic All-District College Division First Team by CoSIDA on Thursday (Jan. 31, 2013).

Senior guard Emily Schartner (4.0, Biological Sciences) and junior guard/forward Katresa Savisky (3.9, Psychology) were both recognized for the honor, which is given to "the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom," according to the release from the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Schartner is a 5-11 guard from Finleyville, Pa., and Ringgold High School. She is second on the Point Park team with 12.7 ppg and has made a team-high 45 3-pointers. She is in her second season at Point Park after transferring from NJiT. She has been a starter both years and has started all 22 games this year.

Savisky is a 5-9 guard/forward from Butler, Pa., and Butler High School. She averages 8.9 ppg and is second on the team with 5.9 rpg. Savisky is in her second year with the Pioneers after transferring from Butler County CC. She was Point Park's 6th man last year and has started 21 of 22 games this season.

To be eligible, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve, have at least a 3.30 GPA and be voted onto the teams by members of CoSIDA. Athletic and academic accomplishments are taken into account. Schartner and Savisky were not eligible for the award last year because candidates must be at their current school for at least one full academic year.

All Capital One (R) Academic All-District First Team honorees will have their names advance to the ballot for the Capital One (R) Academic All-American teams, which will be voted on by CoSIDA later this basketball season.

The Point Park honorees were a part of the College Division, which is for NAIA and Junior Colleges. Point Park falls within the College Division District 2, which also had on the First Team two players from Mt. Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) and one player from Lourdes (Ohio).
