PITTSBURGH – Point Park University senior guard Ashley Henderson, a native of Greensburg, Pa., was named NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Honorable Mention All-American, as announced by the NAIA national office on Wednesday.
Henderson, a 5-10 guard who is a product of Greensburg Central Catholic High School, averaged career highs of 17.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for Point Park (14-13) this year. The former Pitt recruit who transferred to Point Park as a sophomore in 2008-09 earned national honors for the first time in her career.
Henderson was an All-American Mideast Conference first-team selection this year to give her all-conference honors for the third time. She ranked third in the AMC in scoring and 13th in rebounding. Henderson shot 39 percent from the floor, 76 percent from the foul line and averaged 2.3 steals per game.
Henderson’s all-around game is best displayed in the fact that despite being at Point Park for only three years, she is one of only four players in school history with career numbers of at least 1,000 points, 400 rebounds and 200 assists. She finished her career with 1,209 points, 436 rebounds, 216 assists and 174 steals.
She ranks eighth in school history in total points, and her career scoring average of 15.3 ranks ninth. Henderson made 91 treys, which is eighth in the Point Park annals. She is third all-time in career foul shooting at 75.5 percent.
Henderson is the first Point Park women’s basketball player to get national honors since Charlisa Cummins was NAIA DII Honorable Mention All-American in 2006-07.
