Wilberforce edges Point park, gets second AMC win

WILBERFORCE, Ohio. – The Point Park women’s basketball team lost to Wilberforce, 65-60, Friday in an American Mideast Conference game.
Ashley Henderson (Greensburg Central Catholic/Canisius/Pitt) scored 21 points for Point Park (10-11 overall, 4-8 AMC), but it wasn’t enough to prevent Wilberforce (7-18, 2-9) from picking up its second AMC victory.
Friday’s loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Pioneers, who picked up two AMC victories last weekend.
Henderson, Point Park’s leading scorer, was 10-for-10 from the foul line and grabbed eight rebounds. Henderson posted her sixth 20-point game in her last eight outings and helped the Pioneers get back into the game after trailing by eight midway through the second half.
Point Park fell behind, 49-41, with 11:15 to play before mounting a 17-7 run to lead, 58-56, with 5:30 left. But Wilberforce scored nine of the last 11 points to take control down the stretch.
Point Park was victimized by 26 turnovers, and the Pioneers turned the ball over 16 times the first half.
Point Park’s Brittney Wilson (Pittsburgh/West Mifflin) tallied 15 points and eight rebounds. Wilson scored a season-high 20 points in a 63-51 victory over Houghton Saturday.
Point Park visits Cedarville (17-7, 8-3) Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Yellow Jackets are ranked 18th in NAIA Division II after moving up two spots in Monday’s poll. Cedarville beat Point Park, 85-71, Nov. 14 in the Cedarville Classic.
The Pioneers travel to Penn State-Fayette Wednesday (7 p.m.) before finishing up the season Feb. 20-21 at home versus Ohio Dominican and Mt. Vernon Nazarene.
