No. 21 Daemen edges Point Park in AMC game

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Point Park women’s basketball team lost to Daemen, 57-50, Saturday in an American Mideast Conference basketball game Saturday.
Point Park (6-8 overall, 0-5 AMC) held a 28-25 lead at halftime, but Daemen (12-4, 3-1) responded in the second half. The Wildcats are ranked No. 21 in NAIA Division II.
Ashley Henderson (Greensburg/Greensburg Central Catholic) posted 24 points and nine rebounds for Point Park. The sophomore guard leads the Pioneers in scoring at 15.1 points per game, and she fell four points shy of her career high. Henderson had 28 points at Cedarville (Nov. 14).
Ashleigh Hays (Pleasant Hills/Thomas Jefferson) chipped in eight points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Sarah Bogardus tallied 17 points and 14 rebounds for Daemen. Bogardus was 9-for-11 from the foul line. Bridgette Burke added 12 points.
Daemen held a 63-57 advantage in rebounds, and Sarah Soroke grabbed 15 rebounds. Soroke also had 11 blocks and nine points to fall one point shy of a triple double. Haleigh Van Fleet added 10 boards.
Point Park shot 19 percent from the field (15-for-80). The Pioneers shot 19 percent (8-for-42) the first half, and Daemen shot 22 percent (7-for-32) the opening 20 minutes. The Wildcats shot 26 percent (17 of 66) for the game.
The Pioneers welcome Ursuline on Friday in an AMC game at 7 p.m.
