Point Park women's basketball adds three more players for 2010-11 season
July 1, 2010
PITTSBURGH – Point Park University women’s basketball head coach Sam Kosanovich has announced the addition of three players for the upcoming 2010-11 season.
The additions include Anna-Maria Boshkova (F, 6-1), a native of Bulgaria and a transfer from Fairmont State University, Teresa Davis (G, 5-6), a honorable-mention All-Ohio selection from Vermilion, Ohio, and Kristen Beatty (G, 5-7), who came to Point Park last season but had to sit out after transferring from CCAC-Allegheny.
Boshkova is a native of Bulgaria, and the 6-1 forward is a member of the Bulgarian national team in the upcoming FIBA U-20 European Championship. Boshkova and the Bulgarian team will compete in that tournament July 15-25 in Liepaja, Latvia. She was also a member of the Bulgarian U-18 squad.

In high school, Boshkova averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds per game. She spent her freshman season at Fairmont State (22-10) last year, and she averaged 4.7 points per game in nine games. Boshkova will be a sophomore at Point Park, and she will be eligible to play right away.
“Boshkova gives is a lot of skill and versatility at the center position,” said Kosanovich, who has been the head coach of the Pioneers the last four years. “She has a complete offensive game. She can score in the post, step out to shoot the 3-pointer and drive. She can also defend the four or the five.”
Davis is an incoming freshman guard who earned honorable mention All-Ohio Division II honors last year at Firelands High School. The Vermilion, Ohio native is 5-6 and scored 1,256 career points.
Davis (pictured below) was selected second team All-Northeast Ohio Division II, and she was a first-team choice for Lorain County Division II and the West Shore Conference. Davis was a first-team All-Ohio Division II selection in softball, and she will also play softball for the Pioneers.
“Davis brings a good mix of skills as a point guard who can also play the two position,” said Kosanovich. “She adds depth to our backcourt, and she loves the game of basketball. She has a great desire and will to get better, and that will help our team greatly.”
Beatty is a 5-7 junior who can play guard or forward. After a successful high school career at North Allegheny, she went on to play at CCAC-Allegheny for two seasons. She transferred to Point Park last season, and she will be eligible to play in this her second year with the program.
“Beatty is a very hard-nosed player who will compete hard in practice every day,” said Kosanovich. “She is a physical player who can shoot and drive offensively. Kristen is a good addition to our team.”
With the addition of these three players, Kosanovich’s 2010-11 recruiting class has reached four players. Sarah Sandin, a 5-10 guard/forward from Yough High School, committed to the Pioneers earlier this year.
For the 2010-11 season, the Point Park women will welcome back four starters from a team that had a 14-13 record. The Pioneers turned in the first winning record for the program since 1993-94.
