BOX SCORE AND PLAY-BY-PLAY
Wilson (pictured), a senior guard/forward from West Mifllin, Pa., and a graduate of West Mifflin High School, scored 11 points Tuesday to give her exactly 1,000 for her career.
Wilson scored nine points in the first half after hitting three 3-pointers early in the game and was stuck on that many in the early going of the second half. Point Park (3-2), which led 47-6 at halftime, took a 54-6 lead on Wilson's layup with 14:50 to play.
A two-time all-conference selection, Wilson is the ninth player in school history to reach 1,000 career points. In 85 career games, she is averaging 11.8 points per game. Wilson, who has 516 career rebounds, needs 114 more boards and six more games played to crack the top ten in school history in points, rebounds and games played.
Tuesday's win gave Point Park a victory in its home opener and it also marked the second rout of Penn State-Fayette (0-6) in a week. The Pioneers beat the Roaring Lions, 79-37, on the road last Tuesday.
In the first meeting of the season, Point Park led 16-0, and in very similar fashion, the Pioneers took an 18-0 lead in Tuesday's game. Point Park's first 18 points came on six 3-pointers, and the Pioneers made 8 of 15 treys in the first half. Through five games, Point Park is shooting 40 percent as a team from beyond the 3-point arc.
Ashley Henderson (Greensburg/Greensburg Central Catholic) led all scorers with 12 points and hit two treys during the opening spurt. Backcourtmate April Austin (Penn Hills/North Catholic) had 10 points and five assists and capped off the early run with a trey.
Point Park limited Penn State-Fayette to 3 of 33 shooting (9 percent) in the first half on its way to a 47-6 lead at the break. The Roaring Lions didn't reach double figures in scoring until 5:22 left in the game when a 3-pointer made the score 59-10. Penn State-Fayette shot 11 percent (6 of 56) on the night.
Point Park led in rebounding, 59-37, and forced 25 turnovers. Point Park's leading rebounder on the season, Marissa Reinhard (Plum/Plum) grabbed a team-high eight boards Tuesday. Henderson and Phylicia Swain (Pittsburgh/Westinghouse) had seven rebounds each.
Point Park begins American Mideast Conference play next Tuesday with a home game versus Wilberforce. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
Wilson started her senior season needing 54 points for the career milestone, and that's how many she has scored through five games. Wilson is averaging 10.8 points per game, which is second on the team. She scored a career-high 428 points as a freshman in 2006-07 and followed that up with 348 points as a sophomore. Wilson totaled 170 points last season.
