Profile: Schartner is transfer from NCAA Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology. A talented player and a great student, Schartner will be counted on to play a key role for Point Park. A 5-11 guard, Schartner was a role player at NJIT who is capable of taking on bigger duties at Point Park. She has a nice mid-range game and is also a capable 3-point shooter with a good basketball IQ. As a bigger guard, she can add valuable rebounding from the position and is also long on the defensive end. Schartner was the valedictorian of her high school class and carries over her biological sciences major from the academically challenging NJIT.
Prior to Point Park: Schartner got valuable minutes in her two years at NJIT. In 17.0 minutes per game last year, she averaged 2.8 ppg and 1.8 rpg playing as a role player on the wing. She shot 34 percent from the field and 82 percent from the foul line. In high school, she was a very productive player with 17.5 ppg as a senior and 1,270 career points at Ringgold High School. Schartner was a two-time All-District First Team selection by the Washington Observer-Reporter. A four-year starter, she led Ringgold to a section title and a 17-8 record as a junior. Her averages included 15.2 ppg and 5.0 rpg as a junior and 11.8 ppg and 6.0 rpg as s sophomore.
