Ardinger set to play volleyball, softball at Point Park

June 9, 2009

PITTSBURGH – Amanda Ardinger has committed to Point Park, where she will be a member of the Pioneers’ volleyball and softball teams beginning in the fall.

Ardinger, a native of Coraopolis and a graduate of Moon High School, is a WPIAL all-section player in volleyball and softball. She earned four letters and was the Tigers’ team captain in both sports.

On the volleyball court, Ardinger is a 5-5 libero/defensive specialist, and she played club ball for Pittsburgh Magic for four years.

In softball, Ardinger is an infielder who played shortstop for Moon. She has played softball for Pittsburgh Power and Valley Rage in the past.

Ardinger joins her Moon volleyball teammate Alyssa Hall as a new recruit at Point Park. Hall will be a freshman defensive specialist in the fall.

Ardinger will be the second Point Park athlete who will be playing on both the volleyball and softball teams. Last year, Zoe Hughes (Butler/Knoch) had 152 kills and 184 digs as a freshman outside hitter on the volleyball team. On the softball field, Hughes hit .354 and started 34 games in center field.

Point Park’s volleyball team lost six seniors from last year’s 19-18 team that missed the missed the American Mideast Conference playoffs by one game. In softball, the Pioneers were 22-14 in 2009 and fell one game shy of the AMC tournament.
