PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University senior right-side hitter Nicole Wurstle has been named to the 2013 KIAC Volleyball All-Conference First Team. The 6-1 senior from Valley City, Ohio, was one of seven players voted to the first team by Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coaches.
Wurstle was named all-conference first team for the third year in a row and the second straight year being KIAC All-Conference First Team. She was All-AMC First Team in 2011 when the Pioneers were in the AMC. Wurstle was the only Point Park player named to the KIAC All-Conference First or Second Team this season.
Wurstle had a career-high 402 kills this year and ranked 11th in the NAIA in hitting percentage at .376. She led Point Park (21-19, 8-3 KIAC) in both of those categories and also had 90 total blocks. As one of the top offensive threats in the KIAC, Wurstle led the conference in hitting percentage and was fifth in both total kills and total blocks.
Wurstle led the Pioneers to their fifth-straight 20-win season and their fifth-straight playoff appearance. Point Park finished fifth in the KIAC regular season and reached the semifinals of the KIAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed before losing to No. 1 Asbury (Ky.).
Wurstle was a four-year starter who amassed 1,022 kills and 478 blocks in her career. She is just the third player in program history to surpass 1,000 kills, and she ranks third on the Pioneers' all-time kills chart behind Lindsey Oberacker (2009-12) with 1,855 and Rachel Roddy (2007-10) with 1,628.
KIAC Player of the Year Sarah Sterling (OH) led Asbury (Ky.) to the KIAC Regular Season and Tournament Title. Asbury's J.P. Radar was named KIAC Coach of the Year.
