Point Park falls to Wooster, 3-2, on Day 2 of Marietta Classic
Sept. 3, 2011
MARIETTA, Ohio -- Playing its second game in less than 24 hours in 90-degree heat and playing with 10 men for much of the way, the Point Park University men's soccer team fell to the College of Wooster, 3-2, Saturday on Day 2 of the Marietta Classic.
Point Park (1-1) had opened its season Friday evening with a 1-0 win over host Marietta. The Pioneers came right back for a 12 p.m. matchup versus Wooster on Saturday, and once again the heat was sweltering.
Point Park managed to tie things up at 1-1 in the first half on Lucas Silva's second goal in as many days. Silva, a freshman from Brazil, scored on a header off a cross from newcomer Jack Pilkinton, a native of England.
But then the Pioneers drew a red card for taking down a player in the area, and Point Park was forced to play with 10 men the rest of the way. With the man advantage, Wooster extended the lead to 3-1 before Francis Tabi cut the deficit to 3-2 later on in the second half. Freshman Wendelin Hobel, from Austria, assisted on the play.
Point Park continues non-conference play with its home opener versus Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday. Game time at Founders Field is 6 p.m.
