Second-half goals lift LaRoche past Point Park in non-conference game

PITTSBURGH - LaRoche scored two goals in the second half on its way to a 3-1 victory over Point Park in a non-conference men's soccer game Tuesday.
The host Redhawks improved to 4-5-1 on the year while Point Park dropped to 1-9.
LaRoche got on the board early with a goal in the first 10 minutes. But Point Park erased the early deficit on a goal by Shane Lucas (West Homestead/Steel Valley) in the 30th minute.
Lucas' second goal of the year was assisted by Sean Welton (Sharon/Sharon), who put a shot on goal after a corner kick. Lucas (at left) corralled the rebound from Welton's shot and hammered home the game-tying goal.
The teams played to a 1-1 halftime time, and Point Park squandered a few second-half scoring opportunities before LaRoche pulled away.
"We had a couple of chances in the second half to go ahead 2-1 or 3-1," said Point Park coach Jeroen Walstra. "Instead of converting, it stays 1-1, and after a couple of breakdowns on defense we fell behind. But the team is playing better and hopefully that will lead to positive results."
