Point Park's Bowen, Ferrell named NAIA Men's Golf Scholar-Athletes for 2013

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University's Chris Bowen and Jerry Ferrell have been named 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Men's Golf Scholar-Athletes, as announced by the NAIA at last week's national championship in Salem, Ore.
Bowen is a junior from Bethel Park, Pa., and Ferrell is a senior from Youngstown, Ohio. There were a total of 111 men's golfers in the NAIA to earn the recognition. To be eligible, student-athletes must be a junior or senior with at least at 3.5 GPA and also have at least one full year at their current school.
Bowen led the Pioneers to the NAIA national tournament with a team-best scoring average of 76.52 this year. He was Point Park's second-highest finisher at the national championship with a 54-hole total of +17.
Bowen had five Top-10 finishes in nine events during the 2012-13 school year. That included an individual title at the Cedarville Invitational on April 4-5. He placed fifth at the KIAC Tournament to earn All-KIAC honors.
Ferrell competed in one event this year and shot rounds of 80 and 82 at the Berea (Ky.) Spring Tee-Off March 29-30 to help the Pioneers win their first event of the spring season. A two-year member of the Pioneers, he had a scoring average of 81.00 as a senior.
Bowen and Ferrell are members of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society Point Park Rho Chapter.
