PITTSBURGH - Point Park University announced Wednesday that 45 of its basketball games will be broadcast live on the radio during the upcoming season.
Beginning with Friday's season openers, nearly every Point Park men's and women's basketball game will be broadcast live by the student station WPPJ AM-670. In conjunction with the MSA Sports Network, each of WPPJ's broadcasts will air simultaneously on the internet.
Twenty-two Point Park men's basketball games will air on the radio this year beginning with Friday's season opener versus Rochester (Mich.) in the first game of the Notre Dame (Ohio) Tournament. Point Park plays 16 American Mideast Conference games, each of which will be broadcast live.
The Point Park women's basketball team opens its season Friday versus Bluefield (Va.) in the first round of the Bevo Francis Tournament, and that game will be the first of 23 broadcasts for the Pioneers this year. Each of Point Park's 19 AMC games will air live.
Providing play-by-play for the men's basketball broadcasts this year will be Josh Frketic, who will be joined by color commentator Aaron Cooney. On the women's side, play-by-play man Josh Isenberg will have the call along with color commentator Kevin Calhoun.
Each broadcast will feature a pre-game show that will begin 15 minutes prior to tipoff. The pregame show will include the Coaches' Corner segment, which consists of interviews with men's coach Bob Rager and women's coach Sam Kosanovich. Other features include halftime analysis and post-game interviews.
Listeners in the downtown Pittsburgh area can hear the broadcasts on the radio at WPPJ AM-670.
Live internet radio broadcasts will be provided on the MSA Sports Network web site, www.msasportsnetwork.com. Links to the broadcasts can be found by accessing the men's and women's basketball schedules on the Point Park athletic web site. The MSA Sports Network will archive each of the broadcasts.
