PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University has moved up three spots to No. 22 in this week's NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll released by the national office on Tuesday (April 15, 2014).
The Pioneers (31-12, 14-4 KIAC) were ranked No. 25 last week after a two-week absence from the rankings. Point Park had dropped out of the poll after being No. 19 in the preseason, but now it is riding one of the hottest streaks in the NAIA with a 15-1 record overall and 10-0 KIAC since March 27.
The only loss for Point Park in that stretch was 13-12 to Seton Hill, the No. 2 ranked team in the Atlantic Region of NCAA Division II.
Point Park has once again eclipsed the 30-win mark thanks to a pitching staff that has been consistently strong all year and an offense that has come on strong during the current streak. Point Park has its team batting average up to .351, which is second in the country behind only NAIA No. 1 Oklahoma Baptist (36-6) at .361.
Point Park's offense ranks fourth in the country in hits per game (10.9), fifth in RBIs per game (7.5), sixth in the runs per game (8.3) and 11th in slugging percentage (.473).
The Pioneers' pitching staff is 24th in the NAIA in opponent's batting average (.247) and 27th in the nation in team ERA (3.34). The ERA of Point Park's starting pitchers is even lower at 2.22.
Point Park has one more week left in the regular season, and it has added five games to the schedule for this week. The Pioneers' schedule will be as follows prior to the KIAC Tournament April 23-26 in Kingsport, Tenn.:
