PITTSBURGH – The Point Park University baseball recruiting class for the 2013-14 school year has been announced. The Pioneers, who have been ranked in the NAIA Top 25 the last three years, will welcome nine transfers and 13 freshmen to campus this coming fall.
“This is a very talented recruiting class,” said Point Park head coach Loren Torres, who is entering his fifth year at Point Park. “I am excited to see how they adapt to our program and gel with our returning players.
“It is important that they generate synergy for both our varsity and junior varsity teams and buy into our philosophies right away. We graduated a large senior class, which included our entire outfield, a few key infielders and pitchers. I am excited to get on the field this fall and begin working with each recruit and our returners.”
Point Park was 39-16 overall, 14-6 KIAC this past season and made it to the NAIA national tournament for the second year in a row. The Pioneers, who ranked No. 23 in the final NAIA Top 25 Poll, graduated four of their nine positions starters – including the entire starting outfield -- two of their top five starting pitchers and their top two arms out of the bullpen.
