International Graduate Admission Help Applying for Graduate Study at Point Park University
Requirements for ALL Traditional Graduate Programs:
Due to federal regulations, students seeking an F1 visa to study at Point Park may not be eligible to study in all programs offered. Here are the on-ground/hybrid programs currently available to F1 visa holders/seekers:
General application requirements for all programs:
- Complete the online application - Apply Now Free
- Post-secondary education outside the US requires at cost to you a certified credential evaluation using one of the following services sent directly to our university:
- World Education Services (WES) ICAP course by course evaluation is required.
- SpanTran : The Evaluation Company -- SpanTran offers a discounted evaluation if you use PPU's link.
- Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) A course by course evaluation is required.
- InCred International Credential Evaluators -- A course-by-course evaluation is required. Recommended for applicant seeking athletic participation.
- Official TOEFL (79+ score) or IELTS (6.5+ score) results, with a test date of no more than two years. (Point Park University TOEFL Institutional Code is 2676). Duolingo (115+) is accepted for MBA only. The countries exempt from proficiency testing are found here.
- Two Letters of Recommendation . Your references should be in a position to assess your potential for successful graduate study, most notably current or former employers or professors. NOTE: MFA candidates are not required to submit letters.
- Personal Statement of Future Goals (two page maximum).
- Current Resume/Vitae.
- Passport identification page and visa page if applicable.
- GRE scores are not required.
Requirements for SPECIFIC Graduate Programs are as follows:
NO SUMMER STARTS OFFERED FOR ANY GRADUATE PROGRAMS.
NO ELECTRONIC TRANSCRIPTS FROM STUDENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. All programs require credential evaluations for any post-secondary education.
M.A. in Community Psychology (Fall and Spring Start)
- Undergraduate QPA of 3.0 is required for full admission as determined by third party credential evaluation.
- 500-word statement of purpose is required that addresses how your professional experience and career goals relate to graduate study.
- Courses completed in psychology, behavioral science or a related discipline preferred.
- Minimum TOEFL score of 550 (79 IBT), with a test date of no more than two years OR minimum IELTS score of 6.5 with a test date of no more than two years OR approved completion of a PPU English language proficiency program.
Master of Business Administration (MBA) (Fall and Spring Start)
- Minimum undergraduate QPA of 2.75 for full admission as determined by third party credential evaluation.
- A 500-word statement of purpose is required which addresses how your professional experience and career goals relate to graduate study.
- Minimum TOEFL (79+), IELTS (6.5+) or Duolingo (115+).
- Submit a current resume.
Master of Information Science and Business Analytics (slated for a Fall 2025 start)
- Undergraduate students from the following disciplines will be considered for admission: Business Administration and Management, Computer Engineering, Science or Management, Accounting, Economics, Finance, Marketing, Engineering and Mathematics.
- Minimum undergraduate QPA of 3.0 for full admission as determined by the third party credential evaluation. Applicants with less than a 3.0 will be required to have a Graduate Record Examination of 290 or higher or equivalent score in the Graduate Management Admission Test.
- Minimum TOEFL (79+), IELTS (6.+) or Duolingo (115+).
- A 500 word statement of purpose is required which addresses how your professional and career goals relate to graduate study.
- Two letters of recommendation must be from current and/or former employers or professors.
M.A. in Broadcasting, Sports Media and Documentary
- A 500-word statement explaining your motivation and expected benefit in attaining this degree is required.
- Undergraduate QPA of 2.75 required for full admission as determined by the third party credential evaluation.
- Applicants with undergrad QPAs below 2.75 overall and/or less than 3.0 in their major are required to submit official scores from the Graduate Record Examination.
- Letters of recommendation must be from current and/or former professors or employers.
- Applicants are encouraged to include a resume and/or examples of professional work in journalism and mass communication professions.
- TOEFL score of 81iBT with a writing subscore of 22 taken within two years of application date – IELTS score of 6.5 overall with a writing subscore of 7.0 taken within two years of application date.
M.F.A. In Writing for the Screen and Stage (Fall Start Only- this is a low resident program/ I-20 restrictions apply)
Along with all academic pieces listed above (credential evaluation, English proficiency scores), applicants must submit an artistic portfolio consisting of the following three components:
- Personal essay
- Creative and professional resume
- Portfolio of writing samples not to exceed 25 pages
- TOEFL score of 81iBT with a writing subscore of 22 taken within two years of application date -- IELTS score of 6.5 overall with a writing subscore of 7.0 taken within two years of application date.
All portfolio materials must be submitted online through app.getaccepted.com/pointpark
Applicants are required to create an account to begin the online submission process.
An in-person or phone interview is required of all candidates.
All primary academic pieces (test scores and credential evaluations) cannot be submitted by the applicant themselves- they must be sent directly from the company to Point Park University.
M.F.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts (this is a low residency program/I-20 and F1 visa restrictions apply)
Along academic pieces listed above (credential evaluation, English proficiency scores), applicants must submit an artistic portfolio and fulfil the following criteria:
- A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 and English proficiency test if applicable
- Two letters of recommendation from professional individuals
- Submit an artistic portfolio consisting of the following three components:
- Personal Essay
- Creative Resume
- Creative Work Samples (5-10)
All portfolio materials must be submitted online through app.getaccept.com/pointpark. Applicants are required to create an account to begin the online submission process. A phone interview is required of all candidates.
Specific Admission Requirements - Doctoral programs
NO ELECTRONIC TRANSCRIPTS FROM STUDENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED, all programs require credential evaluations for any post-secondary education. All Doctoral programs only admit in the fall term. *Please note: Doctoral programs are not eligible for scholarship considerations.
Ph.D in Community Engagement (this is a low residency program/I-20 and F1 visa restrictions apply)
- Third party credential evaluation from all previous non-US institution(s) attended sent to Point Park University. A minimum 3.25 graduate G.P.A. is required for admittance.
- Current resume detailing all previous educational/administrative experience
- Passport identification page and visa page if applicable
- Statement of purpose (minimum three pages; maximum five pages) addressing your reasons for pursuing a terminal degree and why you feel Point Park's program will best suit your needs.
- If applicable, a TOEFL or IELTS score to be sent directly to Point Park University.
- Submit three letters of recommendation. All letters should address your ability to work successfully under multiple demands. Recommenders may be contacted by Point Park University:
- One from an academic reference who is familiar with your academic career;
- One from a professional reference who can speak to your work performance individually and with colleagues; and
- One from an individual who is familiar with your integrity and commitment to improvement.
- TOEFL minimum score of 95 IbT with a minimum of 24 or higher in sub scores Writing and Reading or
- IELTS minimum score of 7.0 with a minimum band score of 7.0 in both Writing and Reading
Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology
- Third party credential evaluation from all previous non-US institution(s) attended sent to Point Park University. A minimum 3.25 graduate G.P.A. is required for admittance.
- Current resume detailing all previous educational/administrative experience.
- Passport identification page and visa page if applicable .

English Language Proficiency
Point Park University, in partnership with Duquesne University , University of Pittsburgh and ELS Language Center, provides a variety of options in English language instruction. Successful completion in these programs allows you to matriculate to Point Park without taking the TOEFL or IELTS test to most of our Graduate programs . Conditional admission may also be offered before successful completion of these programs or one of Point Park's accepted standardized tests such as the TOEFL or IELTS. Please note, PPU Doctoral programs require proficiency test scores for admission consideration.
Conditional Admission and TOEFL/IELTS Waivers
Point Park University will accept successful proof of completion of the following programs as satisfying the requirements for English proficiency for graduate programs only. *Doctoral candidates must provide proof of English proficiency through the TOEFL or IELTS, Duolingo not accepted.
- Duquesne University ESL Program Advanced Level B
- ELS Language Center Intensive Level 112
- University of Pittsburgh English Language Institute full-time level 5 or 6 with an overall average of 80%
