About the Writers' Series

The Department of Humanities and Human Sciences in the School of Arts and Sciences hosts Writers’ Series events each year. These events are offered through Point Park's English/creative writing program and include public lectures and master classes in the areas of fiction, nonfiction and poetry.

The public lectures are free and open to the public while the master classes are exclusively for Point Park University students.

Karyna McGlynn

Fall 2013 Writers' Series Featured Karyna McGlynn

Award-winning author and poet Karyna McGlynn spent two days on campus as the featured speaker of the fall 2013 Point Park University Writers’ Series.

McGlynn is the author of I Have to Go Back to 1994 and Kill a Girl, winner of the Kathyrn A. Morton Prize from Sarabande Books, as well as several chapbooks. Her poems have appeared in Denver Quarterly, FENCE, Ninth Letter, The Literary Review, Verse Daily, the Academy of American Poet’s Poem-A-Day and more.

Ivan Rodden

She received her M.F.A. from the University of Michigan and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in literature and creative writing at the University of Houston.

McGlynn also serves as the managing editor of Gulf Coast and coordinator for the Houston Indie Book Fest and Gulf Coast Reading Series.
