PITTSBURGH -- The Point Park University women's basketball team will hold its annual Cancer Awareness Game on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 versus Indiana Southeast. The women's game is at 1 p.m. at CCAC-South Gym, and it is followed by the men's game versus NAIA DII No. 2 Indiana Southeast at 3 p.m.

The event is in memory of Nancy Gallagher, the mother of former Point Park women's basketball, soccer and softball player Maeve Gallagher. Mrs. Gallagher lost her battle with cancer this past fall. She had been an honorary coach during Point Park's annual Cancer Awareness games held the last two years.

All proceeds from the day will benefit the Pittsburgh Promise, with donations in the name of Nancy Gallagher. The Pittsburgh Promise has as its goal is to raise scholarship funds to send students from Pittsburgh Public Schools to college.

Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for students and Free with Point Park student ID (with a suggested donation of $2). Other proceeds will be raised on gameday including donations, raffles, concession sales, etc.

"We are playing our big game versus Indiana Southeast in the honor of Nancy Gallagher, who was a wonderful part of our Pioneer Basketball Family," said Point Park head coach Tony Grenek.

"Because her husband Bill is a teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, and because Nancy was a wonderful mother, wife and nurse, all of our proceeds that day will be donated to the Pittsburgh Promise in honor of Nancy with hopes that we can help our local youth follow their dreams by going to college and maybe become as successful as Nancy was."

The Point Park women's basketball team is 23-2 on the year and ranked No. 25 in the NAIA Division II Top 25 Poll this week. The Pioneers have an important, KIAC showdown with Indiana Southeast (10-10, 5-5 KIAC) for the Cancer Awareness Game. Point Park won at Indiana Southeast, 79-77, in the earlier matchup on Jan. 4.

Cheer on the Pioneers for a big conference win while supporting a great cause for the Cancer Awareness Game! Point Park's home games are played at CCAC-South Gym, 1750 Clairton Road, West Mifflin, Pa., 15122.
