Point Park athletics gets eight "NAIA Scholar Teams" with Team GPA 3.0+

Point Park University athletics had eight NAIA Scholar Teams in 2013-14. The volleyball and women's cross country teams tied for the department lead with a team GPA of 3.41. NAIA Scholar Teams have a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
PITTSBURGH -- The Point Park University athletic department on Tuesday (July 15) had eight of its sports teams named "NAIA Scholar Teams" with a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, as announced the NAIA national office.
The NAIA released all the sports teams in the country that achieved this status, and there were 1,290 teams nationwide that earned the honor. Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) led the nation with 19 NAIA Scholar Teams, and the Ashford (Iowa) men's golf team was the NAIA Scholar Team of the Year with a 3.86 team GPA.
Point Park volleyball and women's cross country tied for the highest team GPA in the Pioneers athletic department at 3.41. Women's cross country had the highest GPA last year, and volleyball owned the title the year before.
In all, 8 of the Pioneers' 11 varsity sports teams were NAIA Scholar Teams with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. After volleyball and cross country tied for first at 3.41, women's soccer was narrowly in third at 3.40, women's basketball was fourth at 3.35, women's golf was fifth at 3.34, softball was sixth at 3.33, men's golf was seventh at 3.31 and men's cross country was eighth at 3.14.
Coming up just short of the 3.0 needed for NAIA Scholar Team status were men's soccer (2.94), baseball (2.88) and men's basketball (2.73). For the complete listing of NAIA Scholar Teams throughout the country, click the link above.
Point Park's eight NAIA Scholar Teams placed second in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference behind Asbury (Ky.) University, which had nine. IU East and Midway (Ky.) were tied for third in the conference with five, and IU Southeast was next with four.
