Getting involved through HSO
Honors Program students have an important benefit from the day they enroll at Point Park: membership in the Honors Student Organization. HSO is a unique student group in that it lets honors students immediately connect and communicate directly with Point Park administrators, faculty and staff.
HSO members plan and lead their own events, activities, and community service and leadership efforts, as well. Past projects include:
- organizing panels on important issues like free speech and the environment
- assisting at local food banks and community centers
- raising awareness and funds for cancer research and children in poverty
The best part about HSO? No dues or fees to join. And it’s open to other students, too.
Opportunities to lead
Students can step up to leadership roles in HSO from the freshman year on until graduation. The officers include president, president-elect, secretary, treasurer, community outreach representative, and then representatives from each class level and two at-large from the entire membership. Students can volunteer for a number of committees, too, and lead projects and activities.
These roles offer great learning experiences that complement classroom learning and enhance resumes and experience as students later apply for internships, scholarships, and graduate school or work opportunities after graduation.
