Earn your B.F.A. in Photography in Downtown Pittsburgh
The School of Communication's B.F.A. in photography program aims to develop liberally educated individuals who are prepared for a professional and creative working environment. Focusing on both practice and theory, students engage with a vibrant community and become thoughtful image-makers by employing creative problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Students are encouraged to explore a wide range of electives within the curriculum in order to develop an understanding of contemporary global social and cultural issues. Emphasis is placed on bringing these studies to their photographic process as a cohesive body of work that speaks to specific ideas and concepts.
Processes and techniques covered include: 35mm, medium format, and 4x5 film camera, digital capture and post-production, web design, gallery and portfolio presentation, business and marketing, alternative processes, interpretive writing, and historical and theoretical issues, among other emerging methodologies in photographic practice.
