"The faculty prepared us for the professional world through mock auditions, having talk-backs with artists and learning/being evaluated by current choreographers in the industry. Those opportunities prepared me to enter the New York audition pool. I began auditioning in New York my senior year and was so surprised by how prepared I felt in the room."

What have you enjoyed most as a performer in Moulin Rouge! The Musical?

It has been so surreal to learn Sonya Tayeh’s incredible choreography for this musical. That has been my favorite part thus far. I love how the show encompasses so many different movement styles — giving me the chance to live in all of the different worlds of movement I explored at Point Park.

Why did you choose Point Park’s dance program?

I made the best choice going to Point Park. After I went to the International Summer Dance Intensive in high school, my heart was set on Point Park. I loved that I would get to train in a variety of styles with the hopes of leaving the program a well-rounded dancer. With an ever-changing dance world, I knew the more styles I had under my belt, the more marketable I would be. I wanted to do it all.

In what ways has Point Park put you on the path to reaching your career goals?

The dance faculty held us to a certain standard regardless of our backgrounds and strengths. For example, being in ballet classes with students who’ve trained for years with ballet as their focus pushed me to strengthen my own ballet technique, even when I knew being in a ballet company was not written in the stars for me.

In addition to minoring in musical theatre, the theatre faculty prepared us for the professional world through mock auditions, having talk-backs with artists and learning/being evaluated by current choreographers in the industry. Those opportunities prepared me to enter the New York audition pool. I began auditioning in New York my senior year and was so surprised by how prepared I felt in the room.

What advice do you have for prospective dance students at Point Park?

Try not to label yourself or put yourself in a box. Be open to all of the opportunities around you, regardless of if you see it for your future or not. That will be sure to maximize your growth as an artist and as a human over the four years.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Enjoy your time at Point Park. You'll miss it when you leave!
