"Alejandro developed a strong, technical knowledge base while at Point Park. He is now honing that knowledge from the classroom and putting it to work in the engineering world."

Ben Maziarz Myers, P.E., senior engineer, electrical, Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc.

"Point Park offers an excellent engineering program. Since the classes are not as big as other schools, this will allow you to take advantage of each class and connect with professors, both of which will greatly contribute to your success."

What did you work on during your internship at CEC?

I developed electrical equipment layout, single line, interconnecting wiring, embedded conduit, cable tray, heat trace, lightning and grounding drawings. I generated electrical equipment and construction specifications. I developed power studies, including short circuit analysis and incident energy calculations using ETAP and SKM software. I also worked in groups with other employees to develop the best option for various projects.

In my new role as electrical engineer, I will perform the same duties. After all the hard work I put into my classes at Point Park, I finally get to use all of that knowledge and experience to contribute to real-world projects. It is especially rewarding knowing that my work is benefiting society.

How has your internship enhanced your Point Park education?

This internship has enhanced my Point Park education greatly. The electrical engineering coursework provided a fundamental foundation for understanding what an electrical engineering career is. Working with CEC has made me appreciate all the knowledge Point Park gave me and how to apply it to a real-world situation. Like my manager said, Point Park helped me develop strong technical knowledge that I am able to apply in the engineering world. I came well prepared to successfully enter this field.

What does it mean to you to continue your career with CEC?

It is a true honor. Ever since the first day of my internship, I have felt very welcomed by everyone. I am very fortunate that my internship has given me the opportunity to join CEC and create good relationships with everyone in the office. I am glad I started my career in this company because I truly have enjoyed working in the firm. I am excited to see what my future holds at CEC.

Are there any specific faculty members who have had a positive impact on you?

Donald Keller, Ph.D., Raju Mundru, Ph.D., and Oleksandr Dobzhanskyi, Ph.D., had a significant influence on my education and my personal development during my college experience. Thanks to Point Park's small class sizes, I was fortunate to have a close relationship with each of my professors and learn as much as possible from them in a one-on-one setting.

Why would you recommend Point Park to a prospective student?

Point Park offers an excellent engineering program. Since the classes are not as big as other schools, this will allow you to take advantage of each class and connect with professors, both of which will greatly contribute to your success.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I am grateful for being part of Point Park's baseball program. I have very fond memories of my team members and coaches. Responsibility, dedication and teamwork are just a few things I learned during these years in the baseball program. I would like to thank the baseball team and especially Coach Loren Torres for making my years at Point Park so memorable.
